Saint Basil's Cathedral, the famous onion-domed church, sits on the corner of the Kremlin, in Moscow, Russia. It has many domes of different colours and patterns, which made the pattern very difficult to make. It is impossible to make domes in Origamic Architecture, so I had to try and give them a circular-like appearance by adding the texture from the real building.

Gracanica Monastery

The Gracanica Monastery was built in the 1300s
with the support of King Milutin, and was the best,
and last, of his Byzantine style churches. The
building was constructed from sandstone, limestone, and brick of different shades. The interior of the monastery contains many frescoes, including ones of the building’s patrons, King Milutin, and Queen Simonis.

In 1999, after violence broke out in Kosovo between Serbians and ethnic Albanians, NATO started to bomb the region. Many monasteries in the region were reduced to rubble because of carelessness. The Gracanica Monastery was luckily not destroyed, but there was damage to the facade and interior. Many frescoes started
to crumble as each bombing run took place.

The beautiful Basilica di San Marco in Venice was originally constructed to house the remains of St. Mark, who became the city’s patron saint. The building was torched in a revolt, and was rebuilt, using a mix of Byzantine and Romanesque styles. Over the years, the basilica was added to, and took on Renaissance, Gothic, and Moorish ornamentation. The town’s castle was built around a Moorish fortress by Don Pedro Fajardo, governor of the Kingdom of Murcia. The castle is comprised of defensive and palatial structures, which are linked by two large arches. The Taj Mahal is one of the world’s most
recognizable structures. It was built by Shah Jehan as a mausoleum for his wife out of marble and sandstone. Jade, crystal, turquoise, amber, diamonds, chrysolite, coral, and other embellishments were brought for the building’s construction from all over Asia. The Taj Mahal represented the pinnacle of Mughal architecture, and architects and craftsmen from far and wide were brought to help design the structure. It took 22 years and twenty thousand workers to complete the stucture.

The Masjid Putra, or Putra Mosque was built
in Malaysia’s new administrative capital,
Putrajaya, an ecologically friendly “cyber-
capital,” where all paperwork and red tape
is planned to be electronic and where green-
space and wetlands are abundant. The mosque itself “floats” on a man-made lake and is acoustically superb. The traditional design of the building incorporates Middle-Eastern and Egyptian styles as well as a natural ventilation system. The Putra Mosque was made out of “rosa-j” Malaysian granite. With the help of computers, intricate mosaics for the structure were designed and produced locally. The mosque and its square can accommodate up to 100 000 people. Thanks to Siow Leeong for the name and information, I was able to find more on this mosque.

Armenia is the oldest Christian nation in the world, and was the first country to develop its own Christian architecture style. All Armenian churches were built from basalt and tufa, an easily sculptable stone that
would harden over time. Echmiadzin Cathedral was constructed in the fifth century where Christ was said to have descended and struck the ground with a golden hammer. Over the years, the church was added to extensively, and today, very little of the original structure remains. At one time, the cathedral had a wooden roof, but
it had to be replaced with stone because of rot.

	The second Easter Model is of two easter eggs lying in some grass. Where you see "Name" on the second egg, you can cut your own name. Just remember, if your name has an A, B, D, O, P, Q, or R, you will have to make a tab to connect the inner part of the letter to the egg. (Like in a stencil set.) Hospital

The Hospital is the first model I ever designed. This creation was the only model I designed with a pencil and paper, other than the Two Pagodas model I made afterwards. It is similar to "Temple," which I designed using this as a base. This model is very simple to construct, and is great for beginners.

Glass House

This model is similar to the Glass Palace in that it has several spires coming out of it. This model also has many circular windows and split open roofs. This model is not too difficult to build.

The glass palace is somewhat like a combination of a modern Taj Mahal and Hagia Sophia. It has four towers and many spires. While this model is very complex, it is not hard at all to cut and construct. The finished product looks very nice.

Hotel

When designing the Hotel model, I wanted to experiment with semicircular shapes, which make up the bulk of the model. In the front of the form, there is a large entrance section and in between the semicircular sections, there is a windowed area.

Originally, I intended to make a pyramid that had steps on the front as well as on the sides, but as this proved to be incredibly difficult, I only used steps on the side of the model. "Mayan Pyramid" also has several little details jutting out of the tops of some walls.

Temple

The Temple model was based on my first Origamic Architecture model: a very simple many-windowed form I called "Hospital." I think the reason I called this model temple is because it looked to me somewhat like a very modern religious place of some sort. This is an easier model to construct, so beginners, this would be a good model to start on. Note: the "stairs" at the front of the model should be adapted, as they most likely won't fold properly.
